Cleft Feeding supplies
Cleft pre and post surgical feeding supplies

Above is the "Soft Sip" by Zip-N-Squeeze. It is a fabulous post surgical feeding bottle. It holds 3.5 oz and has a flow valve to controll the flow speed. I really think this product is wonderful. you can order them from www.zip-N-squeeze.com .

Above is the ROSS cleft palate Nipple (AKA hummingbird nipple)

being used with the Johnson/Meade cleft palate bottle.

The JM Cleft Palate bottle is great for daily use with the nipple that comes with it. It is a manual bottle (no flow controll valve) you controll the flow manually by squeezing the bottle every time the baby swallows to give him a new sip.

The ROSS cleft palate nipple comes in a pack of 3 for about $4 and is great for post furgical feeding. you only insert the nipple slightly into the corner of the mouth so there is NO SUCKING on the tube.

The only down side to the ROSS cleft palate nipple is the flow can be a little fast. But for those babies on a thickened formula it is the perfect choice.

Above is the Munchkin Mesh Feeder/teething bag

This is GREAT for babies with out a palate to learn to eat new foods. You can get this at Target or any baby supply store.

Preston used to eat all kinds of foods in this before his palate was fixed and it helped keep it in his mouth and kept him from getting stuff stuck in his throat. you just fill it up with fruit, spagetti, cereal, what ever you want to put in it and let your baby chew away. It makes a big mess so make sure you have a bib handy but the babies really love useing this. (DO NOT USE THIS AFTER THE LIP OR PALATE SURGERY UNTIL YOU GET THE OK FROM THE DR. THAT IT IS SAFE TO EAT SOLIDS COMPLETELY).

Above is the very common Haberman Special Needs Bottle made by Medela. These are very expensive so make sure you ask the hospital for some to take home with you. You can buy these sometimes on EBAY for less than they cost brand new. These bottle have a controll flow valve and help your baby feed on its own with out you having to squeeze the bottle.

Above is the Pigeon Nipple being used with the Playtex VENT AIRE bottle.  I like the Pigeon nipple alot But I only prefer to use it with the Playtex Vent Aire bottle. The Pigeon nipple tends to collapse and the Vent Aire bottle lets the air stay in the nipple so you are not having to open the bottle while your baby is in a drinking groove to release the suction.

The only down side to the Pigeon nipple is that it can be kind of a fast flow. make sure you don't wash this in the Dish washer it will destroy the nipple and make it way to fast. You can boil this nipple or steam sterilize it in a MEDELA Steam sterilizer bag. You will need to order several nipples and they cost about $4.00 Each. These nipples will not last forever only about 6-8 weeks each the hole gets too big and will be to fast of a flow for your baby. This nipple does work with Simply Thick thickener (www.simplythick.com)
